Toledo & Segovia Spain

Casey and I have returned to Italy, but we have to catch up on our Spain travels. We went to Toledo and Segovia one weekend, and we saw (and ate) some pretty interesting things. Let us know what you think!

That is cochinillo (pronounced "co-chi-knee-jo" by Spainards), which is a very tiny baby pig that has been roasted. And yes we ate it!

Madrid

Casey and I have been in Madrid for a week now. Here are some pictures of our wanderings thus far.

Madrid: modern city and beautiful at night
I don't even have a good caption for this.
Hot chocolate and churros
Tanks in the Spanish military parade on their Memorial Day (October 12).
Soldiers marching in the parade
Crowds of people after the parade and the Metropolis building
Symbol of Madrid: a bear eating fruits of a Madrone tree
Seafood in the Mercado di San Miguel. See the barnacles??!!
Jamon- you can also find one of these in just about every bar in Madrid because they cut fresh pieces of the meat for their tapas and appetizers.
Royal Palace seen from the Cathedral of Madrid
View of the Palace Gardens and the Manzanares River from the Cathedral. Sorry about the ugly yellow crane :(
Madrid + smog + tall buildings + cityscape

Last Roman Post

Well Sarah and Casey have left Italy, and we are now in Madrid, Spain. We got here last night, but it is already obvious that this city is very different than Rome. Photos will be coming soon! In the meantime, we thought it would be nice to do one post with some photos of our last moments in Rome. Please enjoy!

Really long escalator at the Barberini stop of the Rome metro line A.
Galleria Borghese. There are masterworks by the famous sculptor Bernini, and they control the amount of people they let in the museums, which makes for a much more enjoyable experience. If you are in Rome, we would suggest this as one of the better museums.
Our grocery store
Intense Carabinieri guard outside the President's palace
Train ride on the way to Tarquinia
Main square in Tarquinia, which was an ancient Etruscan city along the coast of northern Lazio. They are known for their Necropolis, which has well preserved frescoes of lions, hunters, fishermen, dancers, etc in the tombs.
View of the ancient walls and Mediterranean Sea
The tram we always took to go into the center of town.
View of the Pantheon and the moon at night
Trevi Fountain at night
View of our street
Sarah and Casey at the Bocca della Verità.
Bar where they make all their own beer. We went here on our last night in Rome.
Our beers

Ciao Y'all!
